Campaigners against energy firm Cuadrilla's oil-drilling operations have forced their way into its HQ.

No Dash For Gas claimed 20 protesters were blockading the building in Stowe Street, Lichfield, Staffordshire.

Cuadrilla said the office remained open and police were dealing with a "small protest" inside and outside the building.

Six activists have also glued themselves to the central London HQ of Bell Pottinger, Cuadrilla's PR company.

It is part of a "day of action" by Reclaim the Power activists who have set up a camp in West Sussex, where the company is test drilling for oil.

The company has suspended operations during the six-day camp in Balcombe, near the site where it has been carrying out exploratory drilling for oil.

Fracking fear

The campaigners fear the oil drilling could lead to fracking - or hydraulic fracturing - a technique designed to recover gas and oil from shale rock.

There are concerns the process contaminates groundwater and causes earth tremors, but supporters say fracking is safe if done properly.

No Dash for Gas said there were activists inside the Lichfield building and banners were being hung off the officers, saying Reclaim the Power and Power to the People.

Cuadrilla said: "Three protesters have forced their way into our offices.

"The police are in attendance and are dealing with this matter. A small number of protesters are outside the building."

Banners were also unfurled at the HQ of Bell Pottinger in Holborn.

No Dash for Gas says the protests aim to highlight Balcombe's opposition to Cuadrilla.

On Sunday, more than 1,000 protesters and village residents marched from Balcombe railway station to the test drilling site.

Activists spent the weekend training ahead of what they said would be 48 hours of direct action against Cuadrilla.

Residents in the village have said protesters plan to enter the site.

Cuadrilla is drilling a 3,000ft (900m) vertical well and a 2,500ft (750m) horizontal bore, at a site south of Balcombe. The firm said any fracking for shale gas there would require fresh permission.
