Three of Britain's 2012 Olympic medallists have started the 2014 London Marathon.
Rowers Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins pushed the red button to send 36,000 participants on their way. They are also running the race.
Two-time Olympic medallist Mo Farah, 31, is one of the favourites to win the 26.2-mile capital course.
David "Weirwolf" Weir lost his bid to become the best wheelchair racer in the event's history.
He had been aiming to win his seventh title but was beaten into second place by Switzerland's Marcel Hug.
Farah, the Olympic and world champion at both 5,000m and 10,000m is running less than a month after collapsing at the end of the New York Half Marathon
It is also his first competitive marathon and sees him race against reigning champion Tsegaye Kebede, world record holder Wilson Kipsang, course record holder Emmanuel Mutai, and Olympic and world champion Stephen Kiprotich.
Farah said: "I'll give 100% and try not to disappoint the crowd - it's about finding out what can I do? That's the question.
"Racing in London and having the fans and the crowd it gives me a massive boost - that's what excites me.
"My plan is to go hard or go home."
Bookmakers, William Hill, have installed Farah at 6/1 as he goes for Steve Jones' British record of two hours, seven minutes and 13 seconds, which has stood since 1985.

Rupert Adams from the company said: "Mo will almost certainly start as the best-backed runner in the history of the marathon."
Michael OwenThe race's pacemaker, Haile Gebrselassie, has also been instructed to set up a world record attempt.
The other Britons in the elite race are Scott Overall, Craig Hopkins and debutants Chris Thompson and Ben Livesey.
The women's race got under way with Kenya's Priscah Jeptoo defending her title. Her winning time last year was two hours, 20 minutes and 15 seconds.
Britain's interests lie in Amy Whitehead, Emma Stepto and Gemma Steel who are wearing bib numbers 113, 114 and 116.
The elite wheelchair races, which got under way at 08:55 BST, sees American Tatyana McFadden as one of the favourites to win the women's event.
Game of ThronesLast month she won silver in cross-country skiing at Sochi's Winter Paralympics.
The thousands of fun-runners taking part in the event will be raising thousands of pounds for charity.
Celebrities including former Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen, Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer, and Michelin-star chef Michel Roux Jr are just some of those donning their running shoes.
Race starters Grainger and Watkins, who won the women's double sculls gold at the London 2012 Games, are two of 13 London Games gold medallists taking on the famous course from Blackheath to The Mall.
